Mount Kilmanjaro Climb for CP on Hold! 10 Aug 09 16:43 PM Posted by Andrew LeibovitchDue personal circumstances I have had to put my Wheelie Big Challenge Climb of Mount Kilmanjaro on hold.
I assure you that I will be facing the challenge as soon as I can, please continue to support me and The Centre for Cerebral Palsy!
----
What started as a plan to make a family donation to Cerebral Palsy and acquire one of the items on The Centre for Cerebral Palsy’s never ending “Wish List” to purchase an item of equipment for a child with Cerebral Palsy ended with my family challenging me to raise enough funds from family, friends and colleagues to buy all the outstanding items on the list! I have therefore set myself a challenge to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in early September in attempt to meet this Challenge but to do it I need your support!
So I invite you to help grant wishes to people with CP by supporting my climb to nearly 6,000 metres to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro. If you would like to help by joining me on the climb (and carrying my backpack) you are most welcome but if that does not sound too appealing then I would be really grateful if you could help support me with a donation to this worthy cause. The current wish list is about $30,000 which means I am looking to raise $5 per metre (once an accountant, always an accountant…).
If you can sponsor me for as a little as one metre it will help fund the outstanding items of equipment and special projects on The Centre’s Wish List.
Each stage of the Mountain I conquer will help me grant another wish and I am determined to make it to the top! To make this challenge even tougher, I'm leaving in less than 4 weeks and the most training I have done is tackling Mount Street in West Perth (a 43 metre ascent!) with my wife in tow (who has an average pace speed of about 1km per hour and is more interested in the coffee shop at the bottom of the hill).
Mount Kilimanjaro is in Tanzania and is the highest mountain in Africa at 5,892 metres (vs Mt Everest at 8,848 metres, Mount Kosciuszko at 2,228 metres and Mount Street at 43 metres!). The climb should take me a week to complete and as Kilimanjaro contains an example of virtually every ecosystem on earth - glacier, snowfields, deserts, alpine moorland, savannah, and tropical jungle, all of which are found on the mountain the backpack should provide an additional challenge. My kids suggested this could be a family activity but the thought of the luggage, my wife and daughter would take on the climb, killed this idea.
All donations received will be used to purchase items off The Centre’s never ending Wish List that is updated regularly. Please remember all donations over $2 are tax deductible. To view the Wish List please visit tccp.com.au, click on the Donate menu on the left and select Equipment Sponsorship Wish List.
I will be covering my own expenses relating to this challenge - including everything down to blister band aids and immodium! If you can sponsor my climb please scroll down and make a donation using your credit card. No amount is too small and every donation will be gratefully received and will make a huge difference in the life of a person with CP. Sponsorship on my clothing is filling up but I am sure I could squeeze in (very prominently!) any company logos for corporates who would like to make a significant donation.
