The Fred Hollows Foundation

The vision of The Fred Hollows Foundation is for a world where no one is needlessly blind, and Indigenous Australians enjoy the same health and life expectancy as other Australians. The Foundation carries on the work of the late Professor Fred Hollows.

Since 1992 The Foundation has restored sight to over 1 million people.Through its work within the global eye health movement The Foundation aims to increase the attention paid by world leaders to the task of ending avoidable blindness.

The Foundation and its partners take Fred's dream to some of the most remote places on Earth. This means bringing teams of eye doctors and nurses where the need is greatest - often setting up makeshift eye units but delivering first class eye care.

The Foundation provides training in skills like small incision cataract sugery, diagnosis, treatment and health administration, so that local people can provide quality eye care.

Getting higher quality surgical results is make easier when doctors and nurses have good operting theatres and eye clinics in which to work.

The Foundation is involved major construction and upgrade projects, increasing on the ground services for those in need, and supplying the tools of the trade to diagnose and treat preventable blindness.
