Assistance Dogs Australia's super puppies have stolen the month of October for their fundraising and awareness month - named Dogtober of course!

Dogtober is a way for people to take fundraising into their own paws, organising doggy themed events or undertaking a feat for sponsorship to raise awareness and much needed funds for Assistance Dogs Australia.

You can build your own page and approach supporters for donations just by emailing and posting your unique link to your social networks. Each donation is recorded on your page along with any messages of support from your donors. So have some fun, do something doggy themed and help the paw!

Dogtober

01 Oct 2010 - 31 Oct 2010

In Dogtober anyone and everyone can get involved. All we ask is that you take part in an activity or event that raises funds and awareness for Assistance Dogs.

There are lots of doggie themed events you can organise or take part in- or why not create your own?

At home

  • Bake and sell pup cakes
  • Host a flea market - selling old and unused items
  • Host a sausage sizzle and invite the neighbours round
  • Dog bowl - barefoot bowling or ten pin, but the twist is, the losing team has to make a donation to Dogtober
  • Bone appetite - Make a packed lunch for work and donate your lunch money to Assistance Dogs or host a dinner party and charge you guests to sample your wonderful cuisine
  • Join Dogtober on facebook

At school

If you have children at school, or know someone that does, why not encourage them to take part.

  • Dog tales - Have a creative writing competition, entries are a gold coin donation. The winner goes into the final with the best story being published in our newsletter. There are also some fantastic prizes to be won.
  • Wear a collar - raise a dollar. Ask kids to get creative, design their own collar and wear it to raise awareness.
  • Sponsored Doggie walk
  • Sponsored doggie-paddle (swim)
  • Hold a Howl-o-ween disco
  • Bake and sell pup cakes, dog shaped biscuits - anything doggie related, but make them edible for humans!

At work

Why not ask your colleagues to get involved and have a bit of fun at the same time. We've produced a list of all sorts of doggie-related fun activities, from team challenges to competition and simple fundraisers, ideas include:

  • DOG-OLYMPICS - Have two challengers (or two teams) and set a challenge. It could be a dog paddle (swim), Dog Leg (game of golf), Dog-run (running race). Each challenger sells a supporter ticket for a dollar.
  • STATIONERY CHALLENGE - $2 per entry in to the paper challenge. Whose plane can travel the furthest, who can shoot crumpled paper in to the bin with the most accuracy, who can produce the best dogarami (origami)
  • DOGS BODY - which team can raise the most money by doing tasks around the office - charge for the tea run, clean the desks. OR,
  • Match the photo of the dog to their owner, $2 entry
  • Bring your dog to work day
  • Throw a Howl-o-ween party

As you can see many events are dog themed - this is not essential but makes it all the more fun, and if you can get your dog involved, then all the better!

The more funds we raise the more dogs we can train to help adults and children with physical disabilities. Our target this year is $500,000 to train another 20 super puppies.

So get active, get involved and join in Dogtober today!
