Running Canberra to Melbourne, via Mt Kosciuszko.
766 kms in 11 days – November 2011
My name is Scott Orchard and I am an everyday regular Melbournian who loves to run. I have been lucky enough to have been involved in athletics and endurance sports for over 20 years. In particular, I have been running marathons for over 20 years, and over the past 5 years I have graduated into Ultra Marathon Running. I.e.: Any distance over a marathon. I have had the opportunity of representing Australia the World Trail Running Championships in Texas and the Commonwealth 24 Hour Championships in Keswick, UK.
Always striving to be a positive role model within the community; I want to prove that anything is possible if you just set yourself a goal and then map the process to achieve this. I have set myself the challenge of running from Canberra to Melbourne over the summit of Australia’s highest mountain – Mt Kosciuszko. This run has two aims – firstly, to raise money for Reclink which will be used towards funding vital social and sporting programs for those experiencing social disadvantage; but equally as important bring people’s attention to the multitude of Australian’s that do it tough each and every day of their life through homelessness, mental illness and those facing drug and alcohol related issues.
Fortunately, I have been provided with unconditional love & support allowing me to do something with my life. Many Australian’s have not been given this chance due to their social standing in the community; however through the fantastic social and sporting programs that Reclink provide, the opportunity to participate and to achieve something is now a possibility.
Join me on this fantastic adventure; whether it is through a simple donation, a larger corporate sponsorship or even volunteering as a possible support crew member. Your support in this run is greatly appreciated and I only hope that I am able to pay it forward through making a difference to these people.
