We need your assistance to raise funds for the children and families affected when Cyclone Nargis hit Burma, one of the poorest nations in the world.

Almost half a million children are without basic shelter, supplies and clean water. Their situation is desperate.

Our teams on the ground are working around the clock to help. We now desperately need financial support to be able to scale up and deliver what we know these families need.

Burma Emergency

07 May 2008

Save the Children estimates that more than 50,000 lives have been lost and millions have been left homeless following Cyclone Nargis which struck Myanmar early on Saturday, May 3rd. Early yesterday, Save the Children delivered two metric tonnes of food, plus plastic sheeting and non-food times to distribute to those hardest hit by the disaster. Today, the second stage of the response will provide water purification kits, items for shelter and cash for displaced families.

Andrew Kirkwood, Country Program Director of Save the Children, whose teams have been distributing aid since the cyclone struck said: “The situation is dire and we are getting supplies out to those most in need as quickly as possible. We have distributed plastic sheeting for shelter, cooking utensils and water purification tablets, but we have also distributed cash. The price of food has doubled in the past two days.”

We need your assistance to raise funds for this dire situation.
