Clare Oliver Challenge

21 Dec 2009 - 31 Jan 2010

The Clare Oliver Challenge of 2009-10 invited Challengers to "Ban the Tan this summer" - helping to keep their skin safe while raising funds for melanoma research.

By taking on the Clare Oliver Challenge, our Challengers made  the following pledge to protect their skin:

  1. I will not get burnt;
  2. I will avoid any deliberate tanning through sun baking or using a solarium;
  3. When the UV is 3 and above, I'll protect my skin in line with SunSmart advice:

    * SLIP on sun protective clothing that covers as much of my body as possible.
    * SLOP on SPF 30+ broad spectrum water resistant sunscreen, liberally to dry skin, at least 20 minutes before sun exposure. Reapply every two hours when outdoors. Never use sunscreen to extend my time in the sun.
    * SLAP on a broad brimmed hat that shades my face, neck and ears.
    * SEEK shade
    * SLIDE on sunglasses

  4. Help raise funds for melanoma research.

You can still support our Challengers, so click on the tab "Support a Friend" and make your donation today!

Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre

Build a Hero Page

The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is the only specialist cancer hospital in Australia. It also houses the largest cancer research group in the country.

Cancer touches all of us either directly or indirectly during our lives. Today, more than half of those diagnosed with cancer will have a successful response to treatment. This significant progress is due to the dedication of clinicians, nurses, scientists, volunteers and benefactors, who are all creating a better future for people touched by cancer.

Sir Peter MacCallum believed that nothing but the best is good enough in the treatment of cancer. We strive to maintain his dream.
