In 1998 Iain was diagnosed with an Atrial Septal Defect within the heart and in 2002 with an enlarged aorta. In 2003 Iain underwent open heart surgery to repair the aortic root leading into the heart and closure of Atrial Septal Defect. The operation was successful with Iain being able to resume his very active lifestyle, with no long term effects from the operation.

Having undergone open heart surgery, Iain wishes to give something back by supporting the Heart Foundation and the ongoing work the Heart Foundation is doing to reduce the impact of cardiovascular disease in Australia through education, awareness and lifesaving research.

On Saturday the 12 May, 2012 Iain Macleod will jump on his bike and undertake a 24 hour cycling challenge. Iain will ride circuits of Parliament Drive around New Parliament House, finishing at 7am on the following day.

Heart Foundation ACT Division

Money raised through in memory giving is used by the Heart Foundation ACT to fund our local work. The Heart Foundation has been working for over 50 years to achieve some truly amazing breakthroughs in the fight against heart disease.

Unfortunately, cardiovascular disease remains this country’s number one killer of both men and women. Every single day it claims the lives of ordinary people, our families, friends, neighbours and colleagues.
