Midi-Smiddy Challenge

28 May 2010 - 30 May 2010

The Midi-Smiddy Challenge raises funds for cancer research and health care in memory of Brisbane triathlete Adam Smiddy who passed away from an aggressive cancer at age 26. Since 2006 Smiling for Smiddy has raised more than $1.1 million for cancer research.

As a spin-off from its parent event, the eight day Bottlemart Smiling for Smiddy Challenge, the Midi-Smiddy will see 40 cyclists tackle a demanding 560 kilometre route around south east Queensland in only three days.

The Mater Foundation is the major beneficiary with funds supporting prostate cancer research, melanoma drug trials and complementary therapies for cancer patients. Funds are also distributed to key organisations such as the PA Foundation and Melanoma Patients Australia.

The Mater Foundation is the philanthropic and community arm of Mater Health Services and the Mater Medical Research Institute, harnessing corporate, community and individual support to Mater; to help ensure the half a million babies, children and adults treated in our hospitals each year, have access to exceptional care.

Donations to the Mater Foundation fund the purchase of life-saving medical equipment and improve patient facilities, ensure Mater’s world-renowned research team continues to find better ways to diagnose, treat and ultimately cure life-threatening diseases, and develops important health care projects which address unmet community needs.
