Climb Your Everest

You can set your own Everest-sized challenge and join Annie and Amanda in fundraising for Sunnyfield.

  • Lose weight
  • Walk every day
  • Give up sugar
  • Stop smoking
  • Run a marathon
  • Quit drinking
  • Curb shopping habits

COOL FACTS

  • Mt Everest is the tallest mountain in the world at 8,848 metres – this is the equivalent of 74 football fields placed end-to-end or
  • 28 Sydney Towers stacked on top of each other!

  • Snap-freeze temperatures on Mt Everest are responsible for the death of 1 in every 15 climbers

  • Temperatures range from -32C to -73C degrees

  • Only Mt Everest has a ‘Death Zone’, where the altitude is so high there is not enough oxygen to sustain human life

  • Both Annie and Amanda are over the age of 50

  • Yaks and Sherpas bring the food to Base Camp and then climbers are completely on their own!

  • Annie and Amanda will need to sleep with their water supply, battery packs and boots to prevent them from freezing

  • The girls will wear six layers of clothing on the trek

  • Annie once saved the life of an SAS soldier during a mountain climb!

  • The biggest risks include: frostbite, hypothermia, altitude sickness, extreme cold temperatures, hurricane-force winds, avalanches and shifting glaciers

  • It will take approximately 9 weeks to complete the climb

  • Both Annie and Amanda balance full-time jobs with the added role of being Mums and also studying Law!

  • The packs Annie and Amanda will carry each way about 25kg

  • The girls expect to lose about 10 kilos at the completion of the climb

  • Sir Edmund Hillary became the first person to climb Mt Everest in 1953

  • The team will eat mostly fresh food at Base Camp but from then on they will survive on dehydrated food rations

  • Annie and Amanda will aim to reach the summit around May 16
