OUTBACK AIR RACE 2012
The Outback Air Race is a GPS-based navigation time trial throughout the Australian outback with the aim to raise funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. This year’s route takes us from Southern to Northern coasts of Australia, starting at Ceduna in SA, then flying to Arkaroola, Innamincka, Charleville, Longreach, Cloncurry, Adels Grove, Mataranka and finally finishing in Darwin, NT. The Air Race will be completed over a 2 week period from 28 August to 8 September 2012.
Every aircraft entered is considered a ‘team’. In order to participate each team is required to fundraise a minimum of $2,000 per person, however many teams raise much more than this. All donations received through Every Day Hero (EDH) go direct to the Royal Flying Doctor Service, (EDH do receive a small commission for maintaining the website).
More information on the race route, rules, etc can be found on the main website link below.
HOW DO I DONATE?
Supporters will generally donate to a specific team however we have also set up a ‘committee’ team which is for donations to the race itself rather than any particular team. If you cannot find the team you are looking for, email: webmaster@outbackairrace.com.au
WHERE DO MY DONATIONS GO?
Funds raised will go to the RFDS. Funds raised by teams from states other than WA will be repatriated to the RFDS operations in the teams’ state of origin. The effort that you put into fundraising will therefore be in support of RFDS services in your own “outback” and local communities.
HOW DO I CREATE A TEAM?
All team registrations must be completed via the team registration form available on the OAR website (link below). Once the form and entry fee has been processed, the OAR committee will issue the team leader with a fundraising page URL, login name and password. The team leader can then log in to EDH and customise their own page with team photos, bios, logos and create blog posts, or the OAR committee can complete this for the team.
