Pawknock Appeal 2008 has now finished 16 Apr 2008 - 30 Apr 2008 Guide Dogs Queensland’s annual Pawknock Appeal focuses on raising funds for our Guide Dog Training Program. The collection period runs from 16 to 30 April but you can start your ‘pawknocking’ anytime. Just make sure you have your collection complete by the 30th. Every year the association enlists volunteers (pawknockers) across the state of Queensland to call upon friends, neighbours – in fact everyone they know – and ask for a donation toward the appeal. Our Guide Dog Training Program covers the period of a pup’s life from birth through to its qualification as a Guide Dog. This journey takes around two years and costs more than $25,000 to complete. This figure includes training, equipment such as leads, Guide Dog harness, toys and bedding, vet care and food. Each dog is then carefully matched with a client with each team receiving ongoing support from Guide Dogs Queensland’s instructors throughout the partnership. Despite the cost, each Guide Dog, and in fact all our services, are provided free of charge. No matter how small, every donation collected during the appeal will make a difference. As GDQ receives no government funding for our Guide Dogs, the association appeals to you to help our latest litter of puppies complete their journey. |
