2009 Snap Ironman 70.3 Geelong has now finished

The International sport of Ironman Triathlon has experienced worldwide growth of participation in both Elite and Age Group competitors. With recognition of this growth of Ironman, 2006 saw the beginning of a new World Championship Ironman Triathlon Series - Ironman 70.3. Sixteen (16) International races, culminating with the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Clearwater, Florida, USA. The introduction of Ironman 70.3 acknowledges the popularity of Half Ironman Triathlon racing across the world – a distance far more attainable and attractive than the ‘full’ Ironman distance. The Half Ironman Course consists of a 1.9km swim, a 90.1km bike and a 21.1km run. The athletes cover 112.9km – the equivalent of 70.3 miles. The KIDS Foundation, a health promotion charity dedicated to childhood injury prevention and injury recovery, is the official charity for Snap Ironman 70.3 Geelong. In 2008, Belinda Harrison, Geelong local and Ironman competitor, said her 70.3 journey was so much more rewarding due to registering for Doing It For KIDS - as she was really making a difference by supporting the work of the KIDS Foundation. During your lead up to the 70.3 event you can collect donations and sponsorship for each kilometre you complete or fundraise to help KIDS Foundation to further continue their programs and services.
