Stay in Bed Day 2011 has now finished

25 Sep 2011

In the spirit of John and Yoko's famous bed-in, Australians are being urged to take part in the Stay in Bed Day on Sunday 21st August to help find a cure for mitochondrial disease, a debilitating and potentially fatal genetic disorder that robs sufferers of their energy.
Mitochondrial disease affects around 100,000 Australians, many of whom are undiagnosed.

While many sufferers experience muscle weakness and exhaustion, other symptoms may include hearing or vision problems, diabetes, heart disease, gastrointestinal disorders, developmental delays, migraines or seizures, making the disease difficult to diagnose and treat.

People can raise money by staying in bed on 25th September and being sponsored, hosting a brunch pyjama party in return for donations, or putting their feet up and giving online to the Australian Mitochondrial Disease Foundation at http://www.amdf.org.au/donate.
