Stay in Bed Day 2009 has now finished 30 Aug 2009 In the spirit of John and Yoko's famous bed-in, Australians are being urged to take part in the first Stay in Bed Day on Sunday 30th August to help find a cure for mitochondrial disease, a debilitating and potentially fatal genetic disorder that robs sufferers of their energy. Mitochondrial disease affects around 100,000 Australians, many of whom are undiagnosed. While many sufferers experience muscle weakness and exhaustion, other symptoms may include hearing or vision problems, diabetes, heart disease, gastrointestinal disorders, developmental delays, migraines or seizures, making the disease difficult to diagnose and treat. People can raise money by staying in bed on 30th August and being sponsored, hosting a brunch pyjama party in return for donations, or putting their feet up and giving online to the Australian Mitochondrial Disease Foundation at http://www.amdf.org.au/donate.
