Fundraising Tips

Fundraising has two goals:

  1. To raise awareness
  2. Raise as much money as you can for vital research and services for people affected by Parkinson’s.

So how do you do this? Well we are here to help you. And we have organised everything to make it as easy as possible for you.

The earlier you start your fundraising the easier it will be to meet your monetary target.

So, let’s get started:

The first step:

Parkinson’s NSW will be using ‘Everyday Hero’ which is an online fundraising page. On here, it will help you set up, organize your page and give you tips and hints, but here are a few to help you along.

Registering your page:

  • Click the register button on this page
  • Scroll to the event you want to join (Sydney, Wollongong or Virtual Walk) and select your ticket type (Adult or Child) and follow the online steps to create your login.
  • During the registration you’ll be asked to either join or start a team. If you are setting up the team go ahead here and put your team name in. ie “Walking with Wayno”.
  • Once you have created your individual page you will see your team on the right-hand side of the screen. Click on the visit team link to be taken to your team page and invite more people to join.

Next:

  • Make the first donation yourself. Research shows people tend to match the amounts already donated, so a $100 donation will encourage donations of similar value. By donating to your own page, you are showing your commitment to your fundraising and setting the benchmark for other donations.


Your fundraising page:

  • On Everyday Hero, you will get your very own Fundraising Page. It will be just yours. And it will work best if you personalise it. That means that you are likely to raise far more money and have people become considerably more engaged with your story if you tell them about yourself, why you are fundraising and add a photo of you or who you are fundraising for.
  • Set your fundraising goal (you can always increase it when you get close). This helps to keep your supporters inspired and motivated!
  • Continue to upload photos and to post regular updates, images and videos throughout your fundraising journey. Let your supporters know how determined you are!
  • Include a short story about why you and your team has chosen to get involved with Unity Walk in the Park. Your supporters are more likely to donate if they know why you’re passionate about the cause.
  • Thank your supporters as they donate to you directly on your page and by tagging them in a Facebook post. It’s a great way to publicly show your gratitude and make them feel appreciated.

Share on social:

Worried about asking? Then sharing on social media is the perfect way to do it.

Share your unique link to your fundraising page and ask for donations through all your social channels. You can also share the link with your friends and ask them to share it as well.

Make the most of your ask and be sure to include why you've chosen to fundraise and what their donation will do for the Parkinson’s. We’ve found people who do this receive more donations!

Put it in an email:

  • Get in touch with friends, family and work colleagues. Tell them what you’re doing and why you’re doing it, send them a link to your fundraising page and encourage them to donate. The more heartfelt and honest you make your story, the more they are likely to give.
  • Send it to everyone you know, don't assume that someone won't give - the cause might mean a lot to them.
  • Send a follow-up email a few weeks before the event to provide them with an update of your fundraising efforts and to remind those who haven't donated yet – people don’t mind being asked twice


Paint the town:

 

Once you've created your fundraiser page, you can download the digital resources from the Resources page that include; Join my team poster, Facebook cover picture, email signature, fundraiser cards, donor thank you certificates and more.  


Facebook Frame:

We also have a Facebook profile picture frame that we want everyone to use!

  1. Go to your profile picture and click “update profile picture”
  2. Click “Add Fame”
  3. In the search box type “unity walk”
  4. Select the Unity Walk in the Park frame and click “Use as profile picture”
