At the Brotherhood of St Laurence we are proud to work hand in hand with organisations around Australia, to tackle poverty and disadvantage in different ways.  We research, deliver and auspice a range of programs to help people struggling with many forms of poverty and disadvantage to build better lives for themselves.

Our advocacy work and wide range of are informed by extensive research and development.

Connecting locally with the communities that require the most assistance is another point of difference in our work. We are now building accessible hubs in communities where they are needed most, providing integrated services for tangible, lasting change.

You can help us reach people who need us most by donating to our Christmas Appeal.

Please continue to support us in offering vital services for families like Kyra and Summer’s (pictured). Our future is built on strengthening families and communities today.

Kyra and Summer's Story

Kyra is trying to reassemble her life after suffering several years in an abusive relationship. On a day-to-day basis, she battles with low self-confidence, residual feelings of grief and extreme loneliness. In spite of this, Kyra works incredibly hard at providing her daughter, Summer, with a stable home environment and forging a better life for the two of them.

Enrolling Summer in the Brotherhood’s Jindi Community Centre Kindergarten was a key turning point for them both.

Previously a shy and withdrawn child, Summer has blossomed since attending kindergarten, while Kyra is now becoming an active member of her local community by embracing various opportunities at the Centre.

With the help from the Brotherhood, Kyra and Summer will have brighter futures.

Brotherhood of St Laurence

Our vision is an Australia free of poverty. We work with others to create a fair, compassionate and just society where all can fully participate in social and economic life, create and share prosperity and treat each other with dignity and respect.
