Keeping Families Close

When baby Cohen came into the world, with life-threatening complications, it was the beginning of a long and emotional journey for his parents, Emily and Ben.

With closest relatives over a 2 hour drive away from the hospital, they desperately needed a safe and supportive place to stay.  A “home away from home”, where they could keep their family close during this harrowing time.

While Cohen received life saving treatment and surgery, over many months, Emily and Ben called Ronald McDonald House their home in Newcastle, Tamworth and Randwick.

“To be able to use Ronald McDonald House services wherever we need to be with Cohen was such a relief. To have the support of other families and volunteers was so important to us, and really helped us get through each day”, says Ben.

Every year, hundreds of families need a home near the Hospital so they can stay close and support their sick child. Parents who have stayed at Ronald McDonald House believe the House significantly helped their family’s well-being and their child’s recovery and quality of life.

Families with sick and injured children, like Cohen, are also able to stay close and reconnect in our Ronald McDonald Family Rooms and Family Retreat. And a new Family Room will be opening in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at John Hunter hospital later this year.

You can help families like Emily, Ben and Cohen during their crucial time of need. Please make an urgent donation today to help Ronald McDonald House keep families close.

This year has been the busiest on record at Ronald McDonald House, with more families across NSW needing a “home away from” home.  These local and regional families desperately need your help.
