The Longest Day golf marathon, are you up for it?
The Longest Day is an endurance golf challenge designed to test skill, strength and stamina. The challenge is to successfully complete four rounds of golf on a single day, whilst raising funds for skin cancer research.
Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world. More than 750,000 people are treated for skin cancer each year.
Cancer Council Victoria needs $100,000 to fund vital research at Monash University that is investigating immunotherapy for more effective skin cancer treatment.
If you think you have what it takes to participate in The Longest Day, then sign up and tee off to fight cancer!
When is the event held?
The event is officially Monday 19th December but you can hold your Longest Day golf marathon anytime in December.
The aim is to complete 72-holes between dawn and dusk on a single day.
How do I get involved?
1. Form a team
Find some mates who are up for a challenge and assemble your team. We recommend a minimum of two players and the competition format is Stableford. Once the team is registered by the team captain, other members can register to be a part of that team. The team captain will be sent a welcome kit with helpful information.
2. Choose a day
Select a day to hold your event and let your local club know that you will be playing The Longest Day and book four tee times.
3. Get Sponsorship
Ask your friends, family, colleagues and club members to support your challenge by making a donation to your fundraising page. You can spread the word via social media.
All sponsorship donations are tax deductible. Sponsorship could be amounts for:
each hole played
each par or birdie made
Did you mention prizes?
As part of the challenge, Cancer Council Victoria and Golf Victoria are offering a number of prizes that recognise the Melbourne member club and country Victoria club that raises the most money.
Each club will receive a perpetual trophy and allocated two positions in the 2017 Oates Vic Open Pro-Am to be played at 13th Beach on Tuesday 7 February.
All funds need to be banked by Tuesday 31 January 2017 and the winners will be announced on Wednesday 1 February 2017.
