From 3 to 9 September, 2017, The Salvation Army Aged Care Plus team will hit the streets to raise funds for The Freedom Partnership, The Salvation Army’s national initiative to end modern day slavery. Many people are surprised to learn that modern slavery happens in Australia.

Last year, The Salvation Army Aged Care Plus raised $100,000 for The Freedom Partnership as part of the annual Walkathon. The Freedom Partnership aims to mobilise community, business and government to realise their contributions to modern slavery and take action to eradicate it. It also stands to support people in crisis through the Australian Freedom Fund. The fund makes resources such as shelter, transport, food, legal and emergency medical care available to people in crisis, ensuring that they receive the right assistance at the right time.

It is estimated that 45.8 million people are currently enslaved globally, with an estimated 4,300 people falling victim to this trade here in Australia. The Freedom Partnership sets out to create a voice for those marginalised by slavery, by educating Australians on this issue, and working alongside projects through prevention, rescue and restoration.

We look forward to celebrating the 2017 Walkathon with you!
